Lottery proceeds will go to a number of Wolverhampton-based nonprofits and community sports organisations, including Leukaemia Care and the Wolves Foundation.
"One of the trustees was instrumental in helping Carl Ikeme, following his diagnosis with leukaemia," the football club remarks, emphasising the "very strong link between the charity and club."
A trustee of the Leukaemia Care charity named Manos Nikolousis met with former custodian Ikeme after he was diagnosed with leukaemia.
After being suggested by team doctor Matt Perry, Nikolousis conducted the initial battery of tests on the player.
Ikeme was reassured to know how things would work with the treatment when Manos began talking through the alternatives, which provided him a lift.
"He began going out of his way for me and my family right away after we bombarded him with questions—not only from me but also from Saba and my mom."
Ikeme continued with his treatment and has been in remission from leukaemia for three years now.
"I became a trustee at Leukaemia Care approximately seven years ago; it is a critically important charity that places a premium on patient welfare," Nikolousis stated.
"The focus is on finding ways to make life easier for patients and their families as they face this terrible disease."
For about £1 ($1.40) every week, interested members can join the lottery, with 45p going to Leukaemia Care for every ticket sold.
Prizes range from £100 to £1,000, and the results are announced online every Monday.
