Lincoln City forward Chris Maguire banned for betting rule violation

Former Scotland international Maguire, 33, placed 52 football match wagers between March 2017 and February this year while playing for Oxford United and Bury.

This would violate FA rule E8, which prohibits participants from “bet, either directly or indirectly, or instruct, permit, cause or enable any person to bet on the result, progress, conduct or any other aspect of, or occurrence in or in connection with, a football match or competition.”

Lincoln City said Maguire was suspended “without prejudice until further notice,” giving him until August 30 to reply to the allegations.

An FA statement stated: “Chris Maguire has been charged with misconduct in relation to an alleged breach of the FA’s betting rules.”

Maguire signed a two-year contract with Lincoln in July 2021 after playing for Sunderland, Sheffield Wednesday and Derby County.

Maguire, who was twice capped for Scotland in 2011, played with Aberdeen from 2006 to 2009 before being loaned to Kilmarnock and became a Derby County player.

West Ham United FC player Andrii Yarmolenko was accused by the FA in February with violations of conduct, including betting promotion and advertising.
