Strong sportsbook activity resulting from this summer's Copa América and Euro 2020 events allowed the company to achieve its "strongest quarter ever in terms of EBIT," according to the company.
Customer numbers grew 25% year-over-year in the second quarter of 2021, with a sole contributor being the surge in sportsbook activity.
There was an 8.5% sportsbook margin for the quarter, and the turnover in the sportsbook was up 73% from Q2 2020.
Positive results in the early stages of the two football championships are mostly responsible for the larger sportsbook margin, according to Betsson.
The fact that Betsson is an official sponsor of the CONMEBOL Copa América has only served to bolster the already substantial income contribution from the sportsbook.
The company and its proprietary sportsbook have allegedly been able to "reap on these events" according to their business strategy.
The combination of the company's product mix, strong sportsbook activity, and sportsbook margin has caused the company's EBIT to reach a "all-time high level."
With an increase of 72% or 77% year-on-year, depending on the official EBIT number, the EBIT will now be between SEK 375m and SEK 385m, up from SEK 217.7m in Q2 2020.
"The Swedish Administrative Court overruled a provision for a sanction fee of SEK 20 million to the Swedish Gambling Authority in June 2021, which has also affected EBIT," Betsson stated.
